Cornerstone Farm is home to some talented and outstanding school horses. They truly are the secret to our success! Our featured school horse was “Afternoon Delight”, known around the barn as “Violet”.
Violet had been a favorite school horse at Cornerstone Farm for over a dozen years and she was truly a special horse. In 2015, she was selected by Stable Management magazine as the “SmartPak School Horse of the Year”. Her kind and gentle nature, coupled with her willingness and obedience –despite losing an eye in 2012– enabled her to become an “equine ambassador”, where she introduced hundreds of Cornerstone riders to the joys of riding! Whether her rider was able-bodied or special needs, every ride with Violet was a therapeutic one.
In February 2016, Violet was inducted into the USEF/EQUUS Foundation’s “Horse Stars Hall of Fame” at a ceremony during the “fête cheval étoile” at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. Her story is featured on the EQUUS Foundation’s website.
